Tug of War by Ertugrul Alemdar

There we stood, near the fifty-meter long rope. Getting prepared to play the last game of the Discovery Olympics 2009. The game of strength, interdependence and team spirit, Tug of War. The score was Radley 13-12 Winchester which meant that winning the game would gurantee our victory. 25 people on both sides gripped the rope so tight that their hands could bleed. 5…4…3…2…1 and the game started. Every single competitor was pulling the rope really hard, using both their strength and concentration.

As seconds past Radley got closer to glory until the rope couldn’t handle this tension and snapped. Everyone fell down. The referee called it a tie which made us the champions. As we held the cup we could feel the glory inside us and departed Winchester singing the song “We are the Champions”!
