A tour of Radley College

For those of you new to this centre, for most of the year, Radley College, found just outside Oxford, is an independent boarding school for boys. However for five weeks each summer, Discovery Summer take over the campus and make it home to 'THE BEST International Summer School in England!-Fact' (Silcock G., Woodsy S., Hawkins M., Frater H., Klopotowski G., 2011).

Radley College was first founded in 1847 by Reverend William Sewell, a fellow of Exeter College, Oxford. But what's more important is that Discovery Summer have been taking it over for the last 13. It is a site steeped in history. But its modern facilites bring lots of home comforts, especially in the recently built J and K boarding houses (known here as 'socials'). Radley owns a full complement of sporting amenities, including a full -size athletics track, golf course and a large swimming pool.

The historic school buildings lie within an immaculate 800-acre estate. This estate puts Radley into the Record Books as it contains the largest continuous area of mown grass in England! Amazing! Discovery Summer students will know this area better as the stadium for the famously competitive Student-Staff Football match (Come on Staff!!)

You must now be ready for a tour of Radley through photographs. Here are a selection taken by Sennur, our Turkish Group Leader, and our resident student photographers, Martina and Constantin. Thank you very much for your snaps!
